Tyre Rims
Car, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, buses all these are different in structure, size and shape. Even their internal machinery is different. Their sitting arrangements are different. The speeds by which they travel are also different. With so many differences you can easily distinguish one with the others. But one of the things that is used in all these different types of vehicles is a tyre. Though the size of the tyres may be different for different vehicles and also the number of tyres used may be different but their ultimate use is the same for all. Tyres are used to reduce the friction between the wheel and the road surface. A tyre is in the form of a covering that is put up on the wheel. This wheel is on which the tyre is put up is known as a tyre rim. Thus you can interchangeably use the words tyre rim and wheel. So basically a wheel is the rim on which the tyre is fitted. There may be different types of rims in different sizes, designs and even made up of different materials. Tyre Rims
So here we are in the 21st century, using tyres for almost two centuries now but do we really know what the things that constitute a tyre are. Sadly, the answer is NO. So what are they? There are many things that go in making your mean machine, your most admired car, to run on the road. Speaking only about the wheels, there are two main things concerned. One is the tyre and the second is the tyre rim. Also only these are the two things visible to us when we see a car wheel. A tyre rim is a metal member of a wheel on which a tyre is fitted. Thus a wheel constitutes of a tyre and a tyre rim. This tyre rim is moulded to form a circular structure. The circular rim is then attached to the main hub.
Rim Types
There are different rims for different vehicles. For example the rim for a truck is different than a rim for a bicycle. Also the rim for a car is different than a rim for a 4X4. Today many tyre manufacturing companies have started making their own rims. This is to make it easy for their tyres to fit in their own rims.
This way they can obtain a greater match between the tyre and the rim. A tyre company named Michelin is also coming up with a Tweel, a combination of a tyre and a wheel. Thus there wouldn't be two separate entities. Thus, you would not require a tyre and a rim separately.
Rim Materials
These tyre rims are also made up of different materials depending upon their end use. The most common material used to make a tyre rim is alloy. You can also find aluminium rims and the high-end carbon fiber rims. These carbon fiber rims are usually used in racing cars due to their durability and strength. There are some special kinds of rims for tyres to move on snow known as snow wheels.
