Along with the body, tyres play an important role in presenting sturdy looks to the vehicle. But what exactly is a tyre? What is it made up of? Well, it is something without which any vehicle just cannot move. So, let us find out some information on tyres, the thing that drives the world.

Tyres

So here we are in the 21st century, using tyres for almost two centuries now but do we really know what a tyre actually means. Sadly, the answer is NO. So what is a tyre? Who invented it? How is it manufactured? Let us find out some detailed information on all these points about our driving force- Tyre. Technically a tyre means a device that is used for covering the circumference of a wheel. The wheel can be of any vehicle. A tyre is used in a vehicle running on the ground for dampening or reducing the oscillations that may be caused due the road surface irregularities.

A tyre is also used to protect the inner wheel from all the wear and tear along with providing a high-friction bonding between the ground surface and the vehicle, thus improving the vehicle's acceleration and handling.

History of Tyres

History of tyres can be dated back to the 19th century. The invention of tyres came about with the invention of a process called 'vulcanisation', which is used in the manufacturing of tyres. The process was invented by Charles Goodyear in 1844. The first ever pneumatic tyre was patented in 1845, the following year, by a Scottish engineer Robert William Thomson. He named his patented tyre as the Aerial Wheel. Later many companies came up and many developments were made that gave us the tyre we are using today.
